Plane crash in Lake Placid kills 2, including former NFL player Russ Francis of Patriots, 49ers

Former NFL tight end Russ Francis and Richard McSpadden, an aviation enthusiast, were killed in a plane crash shortly after takeoff in upstate New York. Francis, a three-time Pro Bowl selection with the New England Patriots, was the president of Lake Placid Airways and had been a pilot for almost 50 years. McSpadden was a senior vice president at the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. The crash is currently being investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board.
